Enrollment in your intended major
If it is determined that you are eligible for admission to the university, your academic record will be reviewed for enrollment to your major program. Some colleges and schools have requirements in addition to admission to the university, including criteria for GPA, earned hours, prerequisite course work, and/or an audition or portfolio—see "Criteria by college" at right for more information.
- If you have applied for admission to a major that has additional criteria and you are not yet eligible for enrollment in that major, you will begin your studies at Ohio State in a pre-major program in your intended college or in the Exploration program. Enrollment in a pre-major program does not guarantee admission to your intended major program.
- While enrolled in a pre-major program, you will be assigned an academic advisor who will assist you in meeting your general education requirements and advise you on completing appropriate prerequisites for your intended major.
- If you are undecided about your major program, you will begin in the Exploration program, where you can explore
available majors and careers while completing general education requirements. Advisors will help you navigate the
opportunities at Ohio State, weighing your academic and career goals, interests, and strengths.
If you are interested in an advanced degree in dentistry, education, law, medicine, optometry, pharmacy, or veterinary
medicine, check the appropriate box in question 21 on the application form.
Note: All criteria and standards are subject to change. A minimum grade of “C-” (or the equivalent) is required to transfer prerequisite courses mentioned in this section.

Criteria by college
Allied Medical Professions (AMP): Direct admission to AMP
programs requires a separate application. Admitted transfer students enroll in AMP as pre-majors. amp.osu.edu
Architecture (AHR): Transfer students directly enroll in AHR. Those who pass a portfolio review and have completed prerequisite course work enroll as majors in architecture or landscape architecture; others enroll as pre-majors. knowlton.osu.edu
Arts (ART): Transfer students directly enroll in ART as pre-majors.
Students who successfully pass a portfolio review in art, art education, or design, or who pass an audition in dance or music, are subsequently admitted to the major. arts.osu.edu
Arts and Sciences Interdisciplinary Programs: Transfer students
in globalization studies, international studies, and film studies enroll as majors. Transfer students in middle childhood education enroll as pre-majors and apply to the major after completing 45 hours at Ohio State. artsandsciences.osu.edu
Biological Sciences (BIO): Transfer students directly enroll in BIO.

Business (BUS): Transfer students with at least a 3.0 GPA on all
previous college course work enroll as pre-majors in the Fisher College of Business. Pre-major students enroll in business foundation courses that are required to apply for admission to the business administration major. Student are eligible to apply to the major once these foundation courses have been satisfactorily completed and the required GPA has been met. Currently the minimum GPA required for admission to the business administration major is 3.0 based on all grades earned at all previous institutions as well as Ohio State. Students with less than a

Dental Hygiene (DHY): Direct admission to the DHY major requires
a separate application. Transfer students with fewer than 45 hours directly enroll in DHY as pre-majors. Transfer students with more than 45 hours are considered for direct enrollment as a pre-major on an

Education and Human Ecology (EHE): Transfer students directly enroll in EHE as pre-majors. Admission to majors varies by program. ehe.osu.edu
Engineering (ENG): Transfer students with 45 or more transferable hours of non-technical course work with at least a 2.8 GPA and credit for at least one calculus course directly enroll in ENG as pre-majors (students may not enroll as undeclared majors). Students with fewer than 45 hours who have an ACT math score of 24 or higher or an SAT math score of 560 or higher directly enroll in ENG as pre-majors. Nursing (NUR): Enrollment to the NUR major requires a separate
application. Transfer students with at least 30 hours and a 3.0 GPA
are enrolled as pre-nursing. Transfer students with at least 45 hours,
a 2.75 GPA, and an associate degree in nursing are enrolled in the pre-
nursing degree completion program. All others must enroll in the
Health Professions Exploration program to consider alternative majors. nursing.osu.edu
Pharmacy (PHR): Transfer students with 45 hours of credit and at least a 2.7 GPA who have completed the Ohio State equivalents of Biology 113 and 114; Chemistry 121, 122, and 123; and Math 150, 151, and 152 directly enroll in PHR. Students not directly enrolled in PHR enroll in the Health Professions Exploration program.
