Academic requirements
Your academic record will be reviewed to determine your eligibility for admission to the university. Once it is determined that you are admissible, you will be considered for enrollment in the college of your intended major (read about college enrollment criteria).
Admission to the university:
If you are applying to the Columbus campus and:
- you have earned at least 45 quarter or 30 semester hours after high school graduation, you will be considered for admission on a competitive basis.
- you have earned 1 to 44 quarter or 1 to 29 semester hours, we will review your academic performance in college and high school and your performance on the ACT or SAT to determine your eligibility for admission.
- you are currently enrolled in your first term of college, both your academic performance in high school and your performance on the ACT or SAT will determine your elibility for admission.
If you are applying to a regional campus and:
- you have earned at least a 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) on your college course work, we will review your academic performance in college to determine your eligibility for admission.

Non-academic factors
Non-academic factors may also be considered if:
- you have demonstrated outstanding talent in a particular area
- you have significant work experience
- your academic performance may have been affected by physical, mental, or learning environment factors
- you are eligible for organized support services at Ohio State
Additional requirements
- Ohio State requires that you receive a high school diploma from a chartered high school or GED to enroll.
- If you have completed any course work at a school outside of the U.S., you must submit an official transcript from
that institution. Foreign language documents must be translated into English by the issuing institution, an authorized translator, or a teacher of the language.

- If English is not your native language, you must submit a score of 527 or higher on the paper-based TOEFL, 197 or higher on the computer-based TOEFL, 71 or higher on the Internet-based TOEFL, 79 or higher on the MELAB, 6.5 or higher on the IELTS, 21 or higher on the English section of the ACT, or 500 or higher on the Critical Reading section of the SAT.
